We should revere the Lord, as He is more magnificent than we can imagine. Yet, if we treat Him like a thunderstorm, rolling through in power to wreak havoc wherever and whenever He pleases, then we forget that He is a good God.

Knowing how many times I have failed as a mother, I am thankful that, just as our regeneration when the Lord makes us born again, sanctification is a work of the Spirit in our hearts and lives.

God’s divine intervention and power are always evident in mind-blowing sunsets, torrential storms, or even the spine-tingling roar of wild creatures. But just because God is all-powerful, holding all of creation together, he can still and will always provide quiet direction.

In the New Testament, Jesus affirmed that the greatest commandments were to love the Lord and to love one’s neighbor (Mark 12:30-31). A person’s neighbor included not only those who lived nearby, but also those who were quite different in regard to ethnicity, nationality, and location, as the parable of the Good Samaritan shows (Luke 10:25-37).
